Rich is the Principal of 7030 Capital. His diverse professional background spans financial markets, conservation and climate, resource recovery, multinational business, community development and citizen science, bringing multiple perspectives to help solve the biggest challenges for people and nature.
Until September 2020, Rich was the Australia Country Director and Senior Director, Conservation Finance for The Nature Conservancy, the world’s largest environmental NGO. While at TNC he collaborated with investors, scientists, policymakers, farmers and Indigenous people to deliver transformational investments for people and nature in some of the world’s most ecologically important landscapes and seascapes.
In Timor-Leste, Rich established and operated the Balibo Fort Hotel, a social enterprise that generates income and employment for the people of Timor-Leste, and saw the protection and restoration of the 350-year-old Balibo Fort, one of the most important historic places in the nation.
Prior to his work in Timor-Leste, Rich was the Australia CEO of global citizen science organisation Earthwatch. At Earthwatch, Rich and his team oversaw significant revenue and impact growth, including the establishment of the flagship BushBlitz species discovery program, a now 11-year collaboration between Earthwatch, BHP and the Australian Government. During Rich’s tenure Earthwatch was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Australian Environmentalist of the Year, 2009.
Rich joined Earthwatch after being awarded an Earthwatch Fellowship by the global packaging giant Amcor, where he was the head of Business Development in the NSW recycling division. Before joining Amcor, Rich spent eight years in the financial markets, including as a senior derivates trader with Ord Minnett.
Rich grew up in a farming family on the fertile plains of Australia’s fertile Darling Downs. A father to four daughters, and partner to Clare, in their spare time the family are enjoying the challenge of restoring critically endangered grassy woodlands on their own farm outside Melbourne.
